For several years, I believed that yoga (asana) was the be-all and end-all to fitness. That no matter your fitness level, energy level, physical condition, or fitness goals, yoga would fit the bill. I now know this was a very myopic view of physical wellness.
I won’t deny that I still believe yoga asana is a fantastic way to keep your whole body and mind healthy and well, but it is actually through my deeper practice of yoga that I’ve become enlightened to “one size does NOT fit all.”
Individuals who are naturally high-energy and have a fiery disposition may find that asana practice leaves them feeling more agitated rather than calm and peaceful. And those who are slower to start may find the calming pace of gentle asana just exacerbates their tendency towards inertia.
What a conundrum!
As a yoga teacher, I’m certainly not trying to steer anyone away from trying an asana practice but instead steer towards self-awareness. It takes a lot of self-awareness to both know AND put into practice the daily habits that will keep you balanced and well.
Here, at The Bridge Wellness Center, I hope you can find the right fit for you.
Our fitness center provides cardio machines, strength training equipment, kettlebells, and a sauna for a fully balanced workout. Our weekly classes range from self-massage with a soft foam roller, to all paces of yoga asana, to high-intensity cardio dance. And our healing therapies include Acupuncture, massage, Reiki, and biofield tuning.
When you understand that one size does not fit all, you free yourself to explore other practices that do fit you.
Peace and wellness to you.
